If you’re anything like me, every single time you go to the drugstore or corner store, you throw a few face masks or sheet masks in your basket right before check out. There’s nothing better than a nice face mask for Self Care Sunday, am I right?
Self care has become increasingly important while we have been spending more time at home, and many have begun to focus on caring for themselves mentally and physically. A face mask is a great way to sit back, relax, and care for yourself and your skin with minimal effort. The only problem is, they’re somewhat expensive (if you’re buying them as often as I do), and they’re usually only good for one use.
So, if you are sick of spending money on face mask after face mask at the store, here are 5 super easy DIY face mask recipes using products you probably already have in the kitchen or pantry (this means you don’t even need to leave the house…you’re welcome). Alternatively, if you’re feeling lazy (I am certainly guilty) and want to leave it up to the experts, have no fear. I’ve included some of the best face masks on the market below, as well.
HOW TO MAKE A FACE MASK
For each of these custom face mask recipes, the directions are very straightforward. Simply mix all the ingredients together into a paste (there’s no harm in adding a bit more of one ingredient to create a thicker solution). Then, apply a thin layer to your skin using a brush or your fingers and relax for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the mask thoroughly from your face (I suggest using a gentle washcloth) and be sure to follow up with a moisturizer and a little jade roller action!
You’ll notice that all of these recipes include an essential oil. While these are optional, I highly recommend essential oils for a multitude of skincare benefits. Learn all you need to know about essential oils for skin here.
DIY FACE MASK RECIPES
BEST FACE MASK FOR ACNE-PRONE SKIN
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp aloe vera
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 2-3 drops tea tree oil
If you are constantly fighting breakouts, oily skin, and acne, this is the best face mask for you. This DIY face mask recipe includes the natural anti-inflammatory, turmeric, as well as honey and aloe vera for soothing inflammation and irritation. Plus, aloe vera contains naturally occurring salicylic acid (MIND BLOWING). These ingredients will help fight the bacteria that clogs pores and causes acne and will absorb excess oil. This homemade face mask recipe also features my all-time favorite essential oil that fights acne—tea tree oil.

BEST FACE MASK FOR AGING SKIN & WRINKLES
Ingredients:
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp oatmeal
- ½ tsp olive oil
- 2-3 drops rosehip oil
Anti-aging skincare products are notoriously expensive (I’m talking into the hundreds), so a homemade DIY face mask is a must-have for anyone looking for anti-aging solutions. As we grow older, our body produces less and less collagen (read my post about collagen here), resulting in visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. This DIY face mask recipe will minimize the visibility of these signs without purchasing expensive products or using invasive procedures. The homemade face mask recipe includes egg whites, which help shrink pores and tighten skin. While oatmeal provides gentle exfoliation of dry/dead skin, buttermilk and olive oil soothe and rejuvenate your skin, resulting in a more youthful look. Also included in this homemade face mask is rosehip oil, which is a proven, natural way to boost elasticity in the skin!

The simple ingredients in this DIY face mask will soothe sensitive skin, and bring out your natural glow without causing irritation. Yogurt is the best ingredient for a DIY face mask for sensitive skin because it is naturally soothing and contains proteins that are great for skin. BEST FACE MASK FOR OILY SKIN
Ingredients:
- 1 tbs yogurt
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp aloe vera
- 2-3 drops rosemary oil
If you suffer from oily, shiny skin like I do, this is the best face mask for you. Many ingredients from your kitchen or pantry are natural oil absorbers and will rejuvenate your skin for a natural glow. The ingredients for this DIY face mask include aloe vera, which we discussed naturally contains salicylic acid, the ultimate antidote for oily skin. The citric acid in lemon naturally helps control oil production, while yogurt soothes with moisture that won’t turn greasy. Rosemary oil is a natural astringent, which balances out the skin’s oil content, controlling excessive oil production.

BEST FACE MASK FOR DRY SKIN
Ingredients:
- ¼ avocado, mashed
- 1 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 2-3 drops cedarwood oil
If you’re feeling like you’re in desperate need of an exfoliating facial for your dry skin, this is the best DIY face mask for you! It not only acts as a super-moisturizing mask, but when removing it, the sugar acts as an exfoliant, turning it into a scrub as well. Avocado is a SUPER moisturizer (my favorite ingredient for moisture), and will leave your dry skin nourished and smooth. Coconut oil will soothe your skin while also providing much-needed moisture, while cedarwood oil smoothes and nourishes!
