Because of my love of Do-It-Yourself projects, I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with different at-home beauty treatments that normally require an expensive visit to the salon. Plus, if there’s an opportunity for me to save a couple dollars, I’m always down. Now that we are all spending more time at home and don’t have access to salons at the moment, these DIY options are a great alternative! Many of these treatments definitely have a learning curve and take some practice. But, if I was able to teach myself these DIY treatments, you can too! Here is everything you need to know to get started, and some purchase options to bring the glam squad right to you at home!
Dermaplaning For Smooth, Exfoliated Skin
What is it?
Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that involves the scraping the surface of your skin with a scalpel. It’s a treatment that is a total game-changer when it comes to smooth skin and flawless makeup application, but it can be pricey at the salon. At home, I use the Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo Lighted Facial Exfoliator, which you can buy on Amazon for under $20! It features a built-in light and a safety guard, so it is safe to use at home, rather than a real scalpel.
What does it do?
The exfoliator scrapes the surface of your skin gently, removing dead skin cells, peach fuzz, oil, and other impurities.
What are the benefits?
Smooth, exfoliated skin: Removing the peach fuzz and dead skin from your face will result in baby-soft skin. I’m serious, you have never felt your skin as soft as it is right after this treatment. It creates a smooth, blank canvas for your makeup, for flawless application.
Healthier-looking skin: This treatment removes the dull, dead skin from the surface of your face, resulting in brighter, rejuvenated skin. It can also help diminish the appearance of acne scars, pores, and wrinkles.
Non-invasive: This treatment can have dramatic results, and it is so low-risk. It is safe to do at home, and there is barely any “recovery” time. Those with sensitive skin may see irritation and increased sensitivity for a few days, but for me, I’m ready to apply makeup and go about my day right afterward. It takes around 15 minutes tops, and will last around a month!
Eyebrows: You can even use this tool to shape your brows! It isn’t best for super-precise shaping, but for general touch-ups above, below, and between the brows, it works great!
